"Bruno Sanfilippo in collaboration with the prolific German drone and overtone musician Mathias Grassow. The seven tracks vary from just over six minutes through to just short of fifteen - a total of one hour, one minute and fifty seconds of pure escape. This release could easily become a tranquil backdrop to your day should you wish it - but if you actually give yourself over to it and listen completely you will be transported, so far from daily life is this musical place, a place of lightness, sleepy introspection and safety. Such economical, fragile keyboard work inevitably calls to mind the gentler compositions of Satie - yet these musicians somehow manage to free their pieces almost of all gravity altogether. "Der Titel gibt schon einen komplett in Ordnung gehenden Fingerzeig, weil „Piano & Drones“ eben nichts anderes enthält als Piano & Drones. Hierfür ging Mathias Grassow eine recht effektive Kollaboration mit dem spanischen Pianisten Bruno Sanfilippo ein, die dann in Stimmung, Atmosphäre und Feeling zum bis dato harmonischsten Grassow-Release geriet. Zu seinen Drones spielt Sanfilippo auf einem 1923 Steinway Piano in ihren Ausmaßen von Kompositionen bis Improvisationen reichende Melodien, die nicht nur hin und wieder sondern desöfteren in Richtung Erik Satie tendieren, also vollkommen auf Wohlklang ausgerichtet sind. Natürlich fällt hier alles in den für die Protagonisten typischen Dimensionen aus, da man sich Spielzeit-technisch alle erforderlichen Freiheiten lässt und die Kunst darin besteht, dass trotzdem keine Längen aufkommen. Die Parts des siebenteiligen Werkes bewegen sich dann auch zwischen sechs und fünfzehn Minuten, womit auch einer (fast) grenzenlosen Phase der persönlichen Meditation, wie die auch immer aussehen mag, nichts im Weg steht."
